What our vols say..

Volunteers

Bethany is a place of safety for 0-6 year olds. A place of safety means that the children are not with us forever, and are placed with us as a temporary measure while family is located or new foster families identified. The children are referred to us by the police or social workers. Our target group are children who have been abandoned, abused and neglected.

Bethany is a registered NGO and NPO  (Non-Government Organisation / Not-for-Profit Organisation), but we do receive a government subsidy for up to 70 children – although our numbers can fluctuate from 40-100. We rely heavily on donations from our supportive local community and from international donors.

Bethany began as a refuge for destitute mothers with their babies, but as the need for a place for the increasing number of abandoned babies became apparent it moved to its present location and started admitting children in 2000. From then on Bethany has continued to grow and adapt to cater for the ever increasing numbers of children that are in need of a safe place to stay.

Having volunteers at Bethany Home is a great asset. They are here to complement the existing staff, working on a roster system to help cover certain areas and when possible add extra activities into the daily routine of the children.
